What’s In A Name? - The Way We Speak of God Flows out of the Way We Think of God

"You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.” (NIV) - Exodus 20:7

1. His Name is Precious

-LORD = JHWH = YHWH

-Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

-John 8:58-59 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” 59 At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.

2. His Name is Powerful

-Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

3. His Name is Practical

-Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

-Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

-Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
